They have also been known as Teguima \/ Tehui, Sonori, Dohema, \u00d3pata, Ore, Hure, Hegue, Hegui, Jova \/ Joval, Aivino, Eudebe, Isoribe, Ocorini and even Tehueco. The distant mother language Proto Uto-Aztecan constitutes the most remote origin known by scholars. Many of you will ask, and we will explain it below in an entertaining way and without going into many details.<\/p><p>It is important to mention the languages \u200b\u200bconsidered &#8220;extinct&#8221; as &#8220;inactive&#8221; are those that no longer have fully competent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linguacore.com\/blog\/l1-l2-language-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L1 speakers<\/a>, but these two terms have their differences which we explain below:<br \/><strong>Inactive<\/strong><br \/>Although &#8220;inactive&#8221; language is not used for daily life, there is an ethnic community (we the Opatas) that is associated with an inactive language and sees language as a symbol of the identity of that community that still retains some social uses.<\/p><p><strong>Extinct<\/strong><br \/>In contrast, an extinct language is no longer claimed by any existing community as the language of its heritage identity and therefore with the lack of social uses. It should be noted that some extinct languages, such as Latin, may continue to be used as second languages only for specific, restricted, often vehicular functions, which are generally not related to ethnic identity.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3fa6320 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3fa6320\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div tabindex=\"0\"><p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\"><span title=\"\">Currently, there is an ongoing project in our nation for the organization and creation of resources for the revitalization, teaching and learning of our \u00d3pata language, thanks to volunteers including linguist experts such as <a href=\"http:\/\/opatanation.org\/collaborators\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Everdell<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/opatanation.org\/collaborators\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian Ruvalcaba<\/a> and Jesus Acu\u00f1a (Yoeme; yaqui<\/span> <span title=\"\">) who have decided to invest part of their time for this cause with the hope of <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/opata\/home?authuser=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">completing it<\/a> by 2024.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"\" title=\"\">At the same time, we are working with the volunteers of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LenguasWeb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indigenous Languages of Mexico on the Web<\/a>&#8221; for the dissemination of our language through info-graphics and the creation of <a href=\"http:\/\/opatanation.org\/opata-animals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other info-graphics of the animals of the Opata region
